The farmers are not raising the bees, they are hunting for honey.  The farmers only interact with the wild hives once/year to collect the honey.  The farmers make hollow tubes 1-2m long and secure them into trees.  They hope that wild bee colonies will move in and make a home.  The farmers are all trained to only pull honey from the sides of the hives and NEVER from the center (where the queen will be).
